It has been almost two years since the release of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which remains the most recent addition to the series. However, in the Ubisoft Forward event in September, fans might be getting their first look at the upcoming game in the series.
This leak comes from a French Youtuber, who claims in a recent video that the title of the game would be Assassin’s Creed Mirage and would be set in Baghdad between 860 CE and 870 CE. Furthermore, the gameplay style is expected to resemble the original Assassin’s Creed.
The game that this leak references is the Assassin Creed spinoff, which was codenamed Rift and was leaked earlier this year. Initially, the company planned for it to be an expansion of Valhalla. However, Ubisoft decided to create a spinoff and make it its own standalone game. By doing so, they were able to expand upon the Assassin Creed lineup.
A Bloomberg report revealing Rift also mentioned that the game would feature Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character from the game, who is a human reincarnation of Loki, the Norse deity. The game is expected to be smaller than their recent Assassin releases. However, there will be an increased focus on stealth gameplay.
The information released by the YouTuber and that by the Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier match, so there may be some validity to these claims. The timeline makes sense as well. In an announcement made by Ubisoft in its Q1 2022-23 report, they reportedly delayed a smaller unannounced premium game from their planned 2023-24 releases.
Therefore, this game is separate from Assassin Creed Infinity, which was recently confirmed in July. The details of the game have not been released. However, it is reported to be a live-service game and will have multiple historical settings.
Ubisoft has been keeping silent about its releases over the past year. Still, fans hope that more could be released in the Ubisoft Forward 2022, which is a full-scale showcase set to take place on September 10.
