Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

A recent leak suggests that Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon variant may make 2023 Snapdragon-powered phones even more desirable. The leak shows that the upcoming chip may have a high-performance variant called the ultra-high frequency version released in 2023.

This new variant is expected to reach clock speeds of 3.4-3.5Hz. When compared to the current Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip used in the best Android phones, running at 3.2 Hz, it is a huge improvement.

The leak also suggests that the new chip may receive a GPU increase, and the strength of the new chip’s GPU might be powerful enough to beat Apple’s A16 chip. However, all of these are all rumors till the Snapdragon event.

It is reported that Qualcomm will be holding its Snapdragon summit around 15 to 17 November, during which it will probably release the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and its ultra-high frequency variant. An earlier leak also speculated that there could be four different CPU cores instead of the three that Snapdragon usually uses.

Suppose the new chips are to be announced at the Snapdragon Summit event. In that case, another rumor suggests that OnePlus may be releasing a flagship phone which would be the first to use these brand-new chips. Therefore, the Chinese OEM would be unveiling the chip’s power before the Korean OEM, which will probably release phones using the new chips in 2023.

The current Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is already an impressive chip, and it is hard to imagine how Qualcomm can improve one of the best chips used in phones. However, leaks have shown that Qualcomm has managed to push boundaries. Some leaks claim that the new chip will be impressive, but its performance will not be drastically different, making it a Plus version of their chip.

However, all that Qualcomm has in store for the phones of the next generation may be revealed within a few months.
