With the Qualcomm Summit 2022 finally ending with the confirmation of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, many companies are announcing their plans to release phones powered by this chip.
Android Authority pointed out that several companies have begun confirming the use of Qualcomm’s new chip, and they were even mentioned during the Qualcomm Summit 2022. However, now consumers are seeing exactly how the chips will be used and in which phones. The round of confirmations started with Motorola, who revealed that their upcoming Edge X40 would be shipped with a brand-new chip.
The existence of this phone was leaked in certification filing, and it was revealed that this new Motorola phone would have a 50MP triple camera setup. Previously, the Motorola Edge X30 had been the first phone to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is why it is possible that Motorola will keep up this tradition.
The other brands include two Chinese OEMs, Xiaomu and OnePlus. The upcoming Xiaomi 13 series has recently been confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. A few leaked designs of the Xiaomi 13 show that they may look a lot like OnePlus phones and iPhones.
OnePlus has also recently confirmed its new flagship. The OnePlus 11 will be powered using the new Qualcomm chip. The OnePlus 11 is also a likely contender for the first phone to be shipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen.
The race to the first phone with this new chip will be very close. Both Chinese OEMs are eyeing the end of 2022 to release their latest flagships. However, since these companies are Chinese, the phones will likely be available globally in 2023.
Other companies that have confirmed employing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 include Oppo and Samsung. Oppo recently confirmed its Find X series that will be featuring Qualcomm’s latest chip alongside the IQOO 11 and the Red Magic 8 Pro.
Samsung is also gearing up to release their Galaxy S23, which will also most likely use the new chip. The new chip is highly anticipated because of the vast technological advancement that Qualcomm has been able to make. The new chip will include an AI engine, a 200MP photo-capturing ability, and the upgrade to Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.
