Qualcomm May Be Skipping the Plus and Releasing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3_11zon

Qualcomm is known to manufacture some of the best SoCs on the market, and these chips are most commonly used in some of the best Android smartphones on the market. Qualcomm’s flagship launches usually occur annually, where they release their chips. Usually, a chip is followed by a Plus variant that has beefed-up performance traits and is released in the second half of the year. Still, it seems like Qualcomm may be changing its strategy.

According to rumors by Android Authority, Qualcomm may be ditching their Plus variant for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip in favor of a direct successor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The rumors also suggest that the company will launch its next flagship chipset in October because of this strategy change. This is a month earlier than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which launched in November. The difference in months is not surprising, as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was launched a month earlier than its predecessor.

The rumor also includes details of the features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Allegedly, this chip will have a 25% higher performance and will be 20% more efficient than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This chip is currently codenamed Lanai and has SM8650 as its model number. It is expected that the chip will have a 1+5+2 core configuration. This differs from the current configuration of 1+4+3 that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has.

Recently, top Android companies have released flagship phones like the Oneplus 11 and the Samsung Galaxy S23, using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, and more Android phones are expected to launch with this chipset, making it a powerful one. With the Gen 3 chip’s release, companies may switch. Future models of the OnePlus 11T or the upcoming foldable phones from Samsung were expected to use the Plus variant. OnePlus will probably be using the 8 Gen 3. However, Samsung could still opt to use the 8 Gen 2 for its upcoming foldables.
