The Google Pixel 8 series is the next premium offering from the company, which has not failed to release a spectacular device each year. There have been several leaks and renders showing off the phone, allowing customers to get a glimpse of what is to come. However, a new leak reveals what customers can expect from the cameras of the new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. These leaks come from Android Authority, which has managed to gain insight into the phone’s camera specifications from a source inside Google.
According to the new leaks, both models in the series will gain several improvements compared to their predecessors. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to come equipped with the new Samsung 50 MP ISOCELL GN2 sensor. This will likely be the primary lens on both pixel models. Due to the larger sensor, the phone will be able to capture 35% more light than the previous sensor, ISOCELL GN1. This means that even in low light, the user will be able to capture a brighter image and have fast shutter speeds.
This is not the first time rumors have claimed the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro have this camera, so the possibility of these rumors being true is high. The new sensor is also reportedly capable of shooting 8K at 30fps. The accompanying Tensor G3 will likely support the chip and allow it to work optimally. However, according to AA reports, GCam does not support it yet.
Other improvements to the camera include a new 64MP ultra-wide angle camera on the pro model. This would be an upgrade from the Pixel 7 Pro as it sports a 12MP Sony IMX385 and offers the same IMX787 sensor found on the Google Pixel 7a. The new ultra-wide sensor is also bigger, and Google reportedly plans on making it wider for the Pixel 8 Pro. Furthermore, it could also see an increase in zoom ratio from 0.56x to 0.49x.
The Macro Mode introduced on the Pixel 7 series seems to be absent from the Pixel 8 series, but it is possible that it may get enabled at some point. The standard Pixel 8 is reported to carry the same Sony IMX 386 ultra-wide angle lens as seen on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7. It also seems that the phone will receive a wider field of view as the zoom ratio is expected to increase from 0.67x zoom to 0.55x.
