Design
If you want a monitor that has an impressive design! Acer R240HY is hands down amongst the very few budget monitors that come with such a sleek and highly remarkable design. The zero frame design with extremely thin bezels will make you question Acer R240HY’s remarkably low price.
Although, the 1/4inch thin bezels and the amazing less than an inch thick monitor will surely wow you. However, we have a few complaints regarding its design! The stand does not allow height adjustability, so if you prefer customizing the height of the monitor according to your preference, you can’t!
Apart from the stationary height issue, the menu buttons are placed in an awkward position on the monitor. The awkward position of the menu buttons affects the overall functionality of this monitor.
All-in-all Acer R240HY does offer an impressive design, but when it comes to functionality, Acer R240HY does not tick many boxes.
Display and Performance
As impressive as the design, the screen of Acer R240HY is also remarkable! The 23.8-inch In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel offers extraordinary viewing angles. The FHD 1920×1080 pixels display resolution has an outstanding color reproduction. Acer R240HY has a matte-finished, anti-glare screen with brightness control down to only 15%.
Our only complaint is the low response rate and refreshes time. The Acer R240HY has a 4ms response time and 9.6ms input lag – that may be sufficient for casual gamers, but we wouldn’t recommend this monitor to pro gamers.
Eco-Friendliness
You don’t just save on the monitor’s buying price; you also save on ongoing operating expenses. This screen only consumes 19 watts of electricity, which is incredibly economical and environmentally friendly. When you switch to the ECO mode, the power consumption plunges to an astonishing 12 volts. It is one of the finest environmentally friendly monitors available.
We previously pointed out that an IPS panel’s wider viewing angles were one of its benefits. You can watch images from up to 178 degrees without sacrificing image quality. This is perfect for viewing movies in bed or from a sofa.
IPS Panel
Acer really makes the most of the advantages of IPS screens by providing a beautiful, bright, and vibrant image. This is kept across a variety of angles, making the monitor suitable for use while working, playing, and unwinding. To further improve this, Acer coated the screen with an anti-glare coating. It is without a doubt one of the monitors offering the finest value for the money available in the market.
We’ve covered many of the advantages of an IPS panel, so it’s time to speak about one of its drawbacks. The condition is referred to as “light bleeding.” What frequently occurs is that light can be seen around the screen’s borders.
Darker scenes, particularly in the corners, make this more noticeable. Although there is some light bleed on this model by nature, it is only somewhat distracting or visible when using it normally unless the room is extremely dark.
Sound
Acer R240HY has no in-built speakers, which is another major con for users who require a sound output feature. Although, Acer R240HY does offer a headphone Jack; however, there are no volume control buttons on the monitor; so, not points for functionality again!
We were expecting an external speaker with the Acer R240HY monitor, but unfortunately, there were no external speakers provided (free of cost) with this monitor. So, bear in mind that you would have to purchase the external speakers yourself that will add to the cost of this monitor.
Connectivity
The Acer R240HY comes with three connectivity ports. You get a DVI, HDMI, and VGA cable ports, as well as an audio headphone jack. You get a VGA port, which comes handy if you wish to connect the Acer R240HY to old computer systems.
But, you do not get any USB ports and a single HDMI port! So, you do get limited connectivity options, which can be an issue for some users.
Software
You will find a few basic features in Acer R240HY’s gaming software. You can tune the monitor’s saturation, contrast, and brightness by using the on-screen display.
However, you will not be able to see the picture or video while you adjust the brightness. Therefore, it is a better idea not to adjust the brightness during a game, or else your gaming experience will go down the drain within seconds.
Monitor Similar To The Acer R240HY
If you like what the Acer R240HY has to offer but want to expand your choice with a similar monitor from a different brand, we recommend that you look at the ASUS VA24DQ. Thanks to its AMD FreeSync up to 75Hz, the ASUS provides a tear-free gameplay experience, plus it comes with a DisplayPort input and is compatible with a VESA mount.
Although the Acer R240H has a decent set of features to offer, its price tag of over $200 holds it back because you can probably find a much better offering within the same price range. Therefore, team Techproreviewers highly recommends that you look at other options before you settle on R240H.
Final Verdict
If you are a casual gamer and you are looking for a budget monitor, then Acer R240HY Review would be a good option for you. However, if you are a pro gamer, then we wouldn’t recommend this monitor for you mainly because Acer R240HY’s IPS panel that does not offer an impressive enough response rate and refreshes rate.
There are several other budget-friendly gaming monitors in the market that outdo Acer R240HY’s gaming performance. However, after thoroughly testing out this monitor, we can confidently recommend the Acer R240HY to casual gamers, graphic designers, editors, and whoever is in search of a low budget Full HD monitor with impressive picture quality and high viewing angles.
So, is Acer R240HY worth the money? Yes! Most definitely, Acer R240HY offers excellent value for money with a sleek and lightweight design, energy-efficient technology, above-average gaming performance, and sharp FHD display – all under $130! Thus, we highly recommend the Acer R240HY for daily use and casual gaming.
