Samsung is gearing up to release its brand new foldable phones this year, but before the company could officially release the phones and unveil their design and specifications, an online leak has revealed what the phone will look like. Alleged official press renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 made rounds yesterday after being shared by MySmartPrice. These images give us a clear picture of what the foldable will look like before it is revealed on July 26th at the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled to happen in Seoul.
The shared image appears to be promotional material for the device, revealing a familiar design seen in previously leaked renders. The photos confirm that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will come with a large cover screen and a folder-esque design that curves inwards to avoid the cameras. This design choice also sets it apart from the Motorola Razr+. The new form factor also gives users room to use the phone without opening the phone quite so often. The new larger screen is a huge improvement compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which had a tiny screen.
The images also indicate that the large outer screen can be used as a viewfinder for selfies. It can also be used as a music player, and in the future, Samsung will aff other functions, including notifications, weather, time, and more. Google is also expected to optimize some of its apps so that they can be functional on the outer screen.
The expected specs of the phone include the cover panel that will reportedly be 3.2 inches and is a notable upgrade from the Z Flip 4, which had a 1.9-inch outer screen. However, the inner foldable screen is the same size as its predecessor, as it measures 6.7 inches and has a 120Hz refresh rate. The clamshell phone is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 8 gen 2 and backed with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of onboard storage.
In terms of cameras, the phone is expected to have dual 12 MP primary cameras on the outside with a selfie shooter on the inside. Reportedly, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will ship with Android 12-based OneUI 5.1 and have a 3700mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging.
