Asus ROG Strix GL753 review

Though Asus ROG Strix GL753 is not the most powerful gaming laptop. However, its specs, game-friendly extras, ample storage, and attractive design make it worth investing in. It comes with two years warranty that also includes Pickup and Return Policy.

But there is a lot of room for improvements in terms of the device’s design, keyboard surround, and connectivity issues. In this article, we will give a detailed review of the Asus ROG GL753, its specs, pros and cons, and much more.

So let’s dive deep into it.

PROS

  • RGC Backlit Keyboard
  • Good Battery Life
  • Great Performance
  • Low Maintenance

CONS

  • Unattractive design
  • A little expensive
  • Mushy Keyboard Flex

DESIGN

DESIGN

In terms of design, it looks a lot like the previous versions of GL752 and the thinner GL702. The first thing to notice immediately after opening it is the brushed aluminum lid. But the rest of the laptop is made of plastic. Though the black exterior, the ROGO logo on the lid gives it a robust look. But with surrounding orange flashes coupled with a plastic keyboard deck brings down the aesthetic of the laptop.

The main difference externally is due to the optical drive that adds to the device’s thickness. The Rog GL753 has a 17.3-inch screen, 1080 display, and keyboard with a number pad. The cooling fans, speakers as well as the rubber feet at the bottom all are colored. Turn the system on and see the keyboard popping up with color as well. In terms of stability, it stands out due to the high-quality build of the device.

CONNECTIVITY

CONNECTIVITY

On the sides of the laptop, port to connect to external displays and attach peripherals. However, the laptop offers all-important ports, yet there are no highlights. The left side features a power connector, LAN port HDI, two USB 3.0 ports, a single USB 3.1 Type-C port, and a headphone/microphone jack. But the headphone port is very far to the front making its usability difficult for some users.

The right side has Blu ray drive, USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, and a lock slot. It has only one 3.0 slot represented by a tiny symbol. We identified two main issues with the connectivity.

Firstly the insufficient labeling of the ports and then the location of the ports that are way too far. The short cables will be difficult to handle and occupy space for left handlers. The device comes with an SD-card reader sitting at the front. But difficult to view due to the wedge-shaped of the laptop.

DISPLAY

DISPLAY

The display is one of the prominent features of the Strix. The LG-Phillips screen displays a sharp picture with bright colors having a matte finish. The panel offers brightness up to 394 nits in the center, while the average luminance is not lesser than 337 nits. The contrast ratio is 602:1 is just up to the mark. Moreover, if you have switched on the battery, you can still enjoy the maximum brightness.

The resolution of 1920 by 1080 is the perfect choice compatible with 1050 Ti. Any higher resolution other than this will not be functional with 1050, causing the frames to drop. Further, we have observed some backlight bleeding in the lower right area while watching dark content. But overall brightness distribution is quite good, i.e., 91 percent.

COMMUNICATION

COMMUNICATION

Testing the performance of WIFI has left a great impression of the Rog GL753. The laptop can easily connect up to high transfer rates of 666Mbps, competing with high-end systems. Even increasing the distance from the router did not affect the result. We took another device MacBook Pro 13, and compared the Wifi performance for both the systems. It was almost as good as with MacBook Pro 13.

Accessories & Maintenance

Accessories & Maintenance

It comes with numerous accessories like a keyboard, mics, headsets, backpack. The maintenance is low cost and can be done easily by yourself. Take a screwdriver to remove the whole bottom panel. You can then access any of the components and replace one. The fan and cooling unit can also be removed for cleaning. Further, Asus claims a two-year warranty, including Pick-up & Return Service.

KEYBOARD

Keyboard

The keyboard is much similar in terms of layout to GL702. The highlight of the keyboard is RGB- backlit keyboard. You can customize the color of the keyboard by dividing them into zones. Keyboard has an additional numeric pad on the right side. But the directional keys are a bit separated and enlarged. That makes the experience of clicking the keyboard unsatisfying. It is more prominent in the center of the keyboard, where hitting one key flexed the entire keyboard around it.

TOUCHPAD

Asus is most likely using the GL702’s touchpad for our test model. The surface’s gliding capabilities are helpful, as is the input from the two clicking locations. With the preloaded software, you can also use the pad for handwritten inputs.

SYSTEM NOISE

The GL753 fan was never turned off on our test unit, although the dull and sonorous hum is minor. The fact that the fan speed frequently fluctuates even with office workloads is more irritating because you can plainly hear the rpm increases and reductions. Given the relatively mild hardware temperatures, a more conservative fan management for peak load conditions in office scenarios would have been possible.

Under extended gaming workloads, the machine will become noisier. It is heavily dependent on the game’s hardware requirements. We can measure levels ranging from 42.7 dB(A) to 47.4 dB(A). Still, the latter is already quite noisy when compared to mainstream GPU performance. Nonetheless, the noise characteristics are subtle, and we did not detect any electronic noises.

SPEAKERS

SPEAKERS

Speakers provide satisfactory results with a clear and loud voice for gaming. However, it might not be loud enough for a bigger room or party. Especially if we compare the results of the MacBook 12 with this device, you can see a difference. Asus ROG Strix GL753 does not have high tones and bass that hinder the speakers’ performance.

BATTERY LIFE

BATTERY LIFE

In terms of battery life, it lasts much longer than other devices. It can work for 5 hours and 25 minutes with continuous surfing over the internet. That is, on average, 1 hour longer than (4:23) and more sustainable than Stealth Pro (2:54).

If we talk about the webcam, it lacks behind in this feature. The picture looks blurry and dark; therefore, you must have an external web camera for better output.

HEAT

HEAT

The system did not emit excessive heat and remained cool. Even after watching 15 minutes of YouTube video, the bottom recorded the temperature up to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. The keyboard hit 83 degrees, while the touchpad showed 81 degrees. These all are below the 95-degree comfort threshold.

LIMITATIONS

LIMITATIONS

There were the following limitations that need attention to improve. Firstly, the laptop is not worth the price in terms of its look and design. The keyboard surround was another concern that does not feel premium as well. The built-in fan makes a lot of noise that disturbs the smooth running of the game.

THE VERDICT

If you are looking for the best dream system, it’s not the perfect choice. However, it provides great all-around performance at a decent price range.

It has high quality in terms of stability and decent build. The Wifi connectivity and high transfer rate stand out. In terms of input devices, Asus has really improved compared to the previous version of GL702. The battery performance offers a long-lasting duration of 4-5 hours. It provides good quality sound but needs improvement.

We hope this article has helped you decide whether Asus ROG Strix GL753 is a good fit for you or not. So keep in mind all the pros and cons regarding ROG GL753 and decide to enhance your gaming experience with advanced features!
