Atlus recently announced that the Persona 5 subseries has sold more than ten million units worldwide combined. In recent years, Atlus has experienced great success with the Persona series, and Persona 5 has been instrumental in establishing the series’ place as a modern JRPG classic. The developer’s dedication to Persona 5 is clear from their numerous partnerships with other titles, the 2022 release of the enhanced Persona 5 Royal on several platforms, and the introduction of multiple spin-offs that draw inspiration from the fifth core chapter. Because of this focused effort, Persona 5 has successfully developed into a mini-subseries inside Atlus’ vast game portfolio.
Three spin-off games, Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Persona 5 Strikers, and the newly released Persona 5 Tactica in November, have all been developed based on Persona 5 since its 2017 debut. As a tactics-based strategy role-playing game that immerses players in a novel and creative universe with the Phantom Thieves, Persona 5 Tactica stands out. Furthermore, Atlus acknowledges Persona 5 Royal, the improved edition that was published in 2019, as a crucial component of this franchise. With these titles’ combined sales statistics surpassing a noteworthy milestone, the Persona 5 subseries has achieved a noteworthy feat.
The total number of copies sold worldwide for the Persona 5 series has now exceeded 10 million, according to a statement on Atlus’ website and a tweet from the official account. Remarkably, Atlus had previously revealed that by March 2022, sales of the Persona subseries had hit 7.22 million units globally. The subseries saw an astounding upswing of approximately 3 million units between March 2022 and December 2023, indicating a significant growth in sales.
To celebrate this important milestone, Persona 5 character designer Shigenori Soejima made a poignant “Thank You” illustration with Joker and Morgana, thanking the devoted fans who have supported the franchise. In addition, Persona 5 Royal’s remastered port is now only accessible in Japan and available at a discounted price on the Nintendo store as part of the celebration. The same tweet also mentions that there would be a deal on the PlayStation and Steam stores.
The continued popularity of Persona 5 indicates that spin-off games will probably continue to appear, even with anticipation of Persona 6. Persona 5: The Phantom X, an exclusive mobile game that will debut in China, is one example of this and shows how the Persona 5 universe is still expanding.
