That’s said, let’s have an overview of each of these games.

Overview of Batman Arkham Games in Order

Below is an overview and important information regarding different Batman Arkham games to help you decide which one to play first.

Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)

Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)

Starting the amazing Batman Arkham series is the Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game was written by Paul Dini and developed by Rocksteady. The story of the game is pretty exciting.

It revolves around Arkham Islam, where the Batman, your character, has caught Joker. Still, the matters get worse soon, and Joker gets free things to get even more terrible when Joker gets control of this entire facility. The responsibility of protecting the facility comes upon Batman.

As the story illustrates, the story of the game is amazing, and so does the gameplay. Arkham Asylum comes with fantastic visuals for the games of that time. What’s even more exciting is the extra powers and controls you get for a better gaming experience.

If you’re willing to try every part of the Batman Arkham game series, Batman: Arkham Asylum is a great starting point.

Platforms:

  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox 360
  • Xbox One
  • Windows (Computer)
  • macOS

Batman: Arkham City (2011)

Batman: Arkham City (2011)

Next to Arkham Asylum, we’ve got the Batman Arkham City which got widely popular on its release in 2011, and Batman-lovers still enjoy the game. What makes it stand out, is the inclusion of more characters and a more versatile story. The writers of the game include Paul Dini, Paul Crocker, and Sefton Hill.

The story of the game follows the previous part, and a part of Gotham city transitions into Arkham city. There’s a prison in the city, being operated by gangs, and later reduced into anarchy.

What’s exciting about Batman Arkham City is the addition of a variety of new characters with refreshed gameplay and powers. The most considerable new character is Catwoman, whom you also get to control at times.

Batman also gets refreshed powers and some exciting gadgets to improve the overall gameplay. The addition of Catwoman also helps in reaching the places Batman cannot, due to more mobility of Catwoman.

Batman: Arkham Origins (2013)

Batman: Arkham Origins (2013)

Not as we expected, Arkham Origins does not follow the same story into the future; rather, it takes you to the past, where Batman, i.e., Bruce Wayne, is younger and less refined, basically the eight years older Bruce Wayne from the one in the Arkham Asylum.

As the younger Batman gets to put a huge bounty of 50 million bucks, he has to take action and comes by a list of professional assassins to defeat.

Speaking of the gameplay, the visuals are appealing; you get enhanced audio with 3D effects and the extra powers added with the character. Overall, it’s exciting, with a combo of puzzles, new gadgets, combat encounters, and what not?

But still, not following the original storyline makes Arkham Origins a weak part of the series. That’s why you’ll notice that the game has been written by different writers: Corey May and Dooma Wendschuh from Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia, respectively.

However, you still cannot ignore it considering the fantastic gameplay, especially the visuals. The variety of DLCs available for the game offers extra challenges and makes the gameplay more exciting and versatile.

Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)

Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)

The Batman: Arkham Knight, the 4th part of the series, is the final big release for now. Interestingly, the game is also the biggest installment in the series and was intended to be the final Batman Arkham game.

The story of this final (for now) part is set 9 months after the events of Arkham City, and there is the return of Scarecrow, who is forcing an evacuation in Gotham and partners up with some of the other big villains.

As the story illustrates, the gameplay gets even more exciting and challenging. Plus, another bug challenge Batman goes through is the disease inflicted by Joker, turning him into the Clown Prince of Crime.

Furthermore, the gameplay is versatile as well, with various playable characters including Batgirl, Red Hood, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Robin, and Catwoman. Plus, the additional DLCs are in place, making space for more challenges and excitement.

If you’re willing to give a shot to the Batman Arkham series, you might not want to miss this part.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2022)

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2022)

This is the final Batman Arkham part of today’s list and an upcoming open-world game that revolves around action-adventure gameplay. The game is currently under development, and the team behind its programming is Rocksteady Studios.

The game is expected to be released in 2022 by Warner Bros and will be the first game not to include Batman as the title character. Instead, the game offers four characters you can play. These are Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark.

Fortunately, the gameplay is expected to be versatile, with both solo and four-player cooperative mode to enjoy the game with your friends. When playing solo, the game gives you the option to switch characters anytime.

If you’re a true Batman-games-lover, you might want to stay tuned for the release of the game, as it is expected to be the biggest Batman game release of the time it comes out.
