Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, is expected to push flagship phones up a notch in terms of overall performance and speed. This leak comes from a Chinese news outlet called MyDrivers. This source suggests that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform will improve its frequency even further to 3.7GHz. The reason for this increased performance is allegedly due to Qualcomm’s single prime Cortex-X4 core.
The news source also cited Digital Chat Station, a prominent Weibo leaker who notes that there will be substantial internal changes for this upcoming chip. For now, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is labeled as model SM8650 and may adopt a new 1+5+2 internal structure. This change in structure will result in the chip having one super-large core paired with five large cores and 2 small cores. This rumor on the internal design corroborated a two-month-old rumor which suggested the same core architecture.
Rumors also suggest that this new chip will feature an Adreno 750 GPU. This indicates that Qualcomm will continue to allow TSMC to manufacture its chips. However, there seems to be a processing upgrade that the company is implementing. Some suggest that this may lead to the chip going from N4 to N4P, making it around 6% more effective than the company’s previous process.
The previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 prime Cortex-X3 core clocked at a speed of 3.2GHz. Still, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series launched with its own exclusive valiant, which had a slightly higher speed than the regular. Internally, this chip had a 1+4+3 architecture. If the rumors leaked by MyDrivers are true, Qualcomm could be swapping cores around to improve efficiency and speed.
Taking into account last month’s rumors, it seems like Qualcomm will switch up the internal cores, but the final configuration is yet to be divided. However, it looks like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will usher in an era with support for only 64-bit smartphones. The Adreno 750 GPU may also upgrade to an Adreno Gen 7.9.0 chip, pushing its max frequency to 770MHz.
