If you’re anything like me, you probably created many more Lock Screen and Home Screen wallpaper combinations than you used when you initially had access to the opportunity to do so. An excessive amount of wallpaper options might lead to unnecessary swiping, mainly when you only use one or two. To clear your choices, here’s how to delete a wallpaper on iOS 16.

If you’ve made up your mind and want to delete a lock screen wallpaper from the iPhone permanently, you can do so right from the lock screen in iOS 16. 

  • Long press the Lock Screen while your iPhone is unlocked. If you do not have Face ID enabled, you must first unlock your phone and enter the Lock Screen by swiping down from the top of the Home Screen.

Note: The swipe-up gesture is only available if another wallpaper is in your lock screen collection. If you try to delete it, you won’t be able to carry out the swipe gesture on the only remaining lock screen wallpaper on your iPhone. 

  • A red trash icon will now appear beneath the selected wallpaper. Tap the trash button to remove the lock screen wallpaper from your iPhone permanently.
  • Press Delete This Wallpaper.

The chosen wallpaper will now be deleted from the edit screen, and iOS will display your previous lock screen wallpaper. 

Remember: When you remove a Lock Screen wallpaper, you also remove the font, size, and color of the clock you chose for that wallpaper, as well as the related Home Screen backdrop and any widgets you had on that Lock Screen.

How To Modify The Wallpaper Of The Home And Lock Screen

We selected the Astronomy function to add the appropriate wallpaper to the screen. Then it will ask if you want to add the same image as your wallpaper to the home screen. If so, select Set as Wallpaper Pair. Otherwise, select Customize Home Screen.
