The last Fan Edition phone consumers saw from Samsung was the Galaxy S21 FE, which was released over a year ago and has had no successor as Samsung never ended up releasing the Galaxy S22 FE. Many believed that the company might never renew the series. Still, rumours are circling which suggest that Samsung is preparing to launch the FE version of the Galaxy S23 later this year.
These rumours come from a Korean news publication that seems to believe that the device will likely launch around August or September. This means that it will have the same launch window as the Note 20 series and, previously, the Galaxy S20 FE, which was well-received by the public. According to the outlet, the lack of a Galaxy S22 FE was because of a semiconductor shortage, which seems to affect the industry continually. Additionally, smartphone demand had taken a nosedive in 2022, which may also have played a part in Samsung’s decision not to release the phone.
The publication also states that Samsung is considering a reshuffle in order to release the Galaxy S23 Fan Edition. This reshuffling may mean that Samsung will forgo the launch of the Galaxy A74, the follow-up to the Galaxy A73, which is one of the most popular mid-range smartphones in the market. The company is also considering this decision to refrain from cannibalizing the sales of other mid-range devices, such as the Galaxy A54, which is expected to launch early this year with impressive specs. The device is expected to have a 120Hz display, a large 5000mAh battery, and a 50MP triple camera setup.
Since the Galaxy S23 series just released, having another device launch has everyone cautious. The suggested launch window could help it gain traction, but it is also when Samsung’s foldable phones will be released. Therefore, consumers will have the FE as a cheaper option for the second half of 2023. Still, if Samsung wants the Galaxy S23 FE to be a success, the price needs to be right. The Galaxy S20 FE was $200 cheaper than the standard S20, which made it a good option. However, the S21 FE was $100 cheaper, which did not seem much of a deal and, therefore, did not attract people to the same degree as the S20 FE.
