The smartphone industry has been busy with foldable smartphones this year. Many companies, such as the Pixel and OnePlus, are working on releasing their first-ever foldable, while others, such as OPPO and Huawei, are releasing new ones. With Google’s I/O event over, customers have now moved on to anticipate the new Samsung launch. According to Chosun, a South Korean publication, Samsung is looking to prepare a late July Unpacked event that will reveal the newest foldable phones by the company.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 are expected to be revealed at this Unpacked event. Although this event usually happens in August, Samsung seems to be pushing back the date by a few weeks. This means that the Unpacked Event may happen around 26 July, which makes it two weeks earlier than Samsung’s usual second week of August event. This shift in date might be due to Samsung’s latest earning performance.
The company is reportedly dealing with a massive drop in profit due to a lowered demand for semiconductors. Chosun reiterated this fact from a quote from an official close to the subject matter, which stated that to boost the company’s performance, it is essential for the company’s smartphone division to perform well. The earlier dates could also hint at Samsung wanting to get a headstart on 2023’s third quarter by releasing the devices early to get them into the hands of the consumer early.
Additionally, the Unpacked event may be held in Seoul, South Korea, instead of in the United States as it usually has. Many rumors are swirling online about Samsung’s next wave of foldables. Around 2 weeks ago, a leaked render showed off what the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 would look like. These renders showed off a 3.4-inch cover display with a 20x748p resolution and customizable widgets on the screen to take full advantage of the larger screen.
The design of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has not been leaked. Still, a recent case leak showed no huge design upgrade from the last model. However, this can only be confirmed once Samsung reveals the new foldable phone either this July or August.
