With the foldable space getting more crowded, there is more competition than ever. The latest company to have a foldable phone is Google, which is expected to launch its phone in May and start shipping its phones in June. The Google Pixel Fold is rumored to be one of the best foldable phones the market has seen because its specs appear better than that of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5.
To avoid the competition getting out of hand and customers switching to Pixel, Samsung has seemingly decided to hold its big Galaxy Unpacked event at the end of July. This news comes from SamMobile, who noted that the earlier date is a notable departure from Samsung’s tradition of having summer reveals in early August. Although moving the date up by a week or two is not a drastic change, it closes the gap between the release of the Google Pixel Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The former is expected to be revealed in May at the Google I/O 2023 event and launch in late June.
With a few weeks between them, the competition between the two devices will be stiff and will go head to head because of the impressive specs and designs. The most notable design elements from the Google Pixel Fold include a water-resistant and wide display paired with a remarkable hinge. However, it is expected to cost around the same as the Galaxy Z Fold series at $1,799. On the other hand, Samsung’s Fold series is expected to get a significant upgrade on the design front, as it will likely have a thinner chassis and a new hinge design.
It is unclear what Samsung will announce at the Galaxy Unpacked Event in July. Many expect there to be new Galaxy Buds, a new Galaxy Tab S9 series, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, the possibility of a late June Galaxy Unpacked is just a rumor. More details will likely be released when the time approaches. However, such rumors hint at the possible competition Samsung will have to overcome if they want to remain at the top of the foldable phone market.
