The last Moto G Power released by Motorola left much to be desired. Still, the company is bringing an upgraded model for 2023 and making many changes to make the phone worth the money. From the released specs, it seems like the company listened to the critique and has hit many of the right points, making customers excited about this release.
The most significant change Motorola has made to the phone is the new MediaTek Dimensity 930 chipset, which was launched last year. The chip is pretty decent, as it allows the Moto Power to tap into the 5G network, which is a first for the lineup. Users will also have the option for more RAM, as the phone will come with 6GB RAM and 128 or 256GB expandable storage.
On the front of the phone, the Motorola sports a large 6.5-inch FHD+ panel with a 20:9 aspect ratio, which is a massive bump from the HD+ panel that the Moto G Power sported last year. The refresh rate has also been increased to 120Hz, which makes the phone better than many other budget Android phones in this price range. On the back of the phone, there is a camera island with two cameras. There is a primary 50MP camera and a macro camera with a depth sensor.
However, the chip limits the cameras and only allows the phone to record FHD video at 60fps, not 4K. Out of the box, the phone runs Android 13. Motorola highlights a dedicated Family Space, allowing parents to set specific screen time and app limitations for kids.
The Moto G Power is powered by a 5000mAh battery, which according to Motorola, will be able to provide two days of usage using a single charge. It also comes with 15W charging, a step from the 10W charging Motorola usually has on its budget and mid-range phones. The company also includes a 10W charger on the box, so you can switch it with a faster charger.
The phone is also expected to have a 16MP selfie camera and a fingerprint sensor. Still, there is no IP water resistance or NFC. Despite these missing features, the phone is a huge step up from its predecessor and will retail for only $299. It is expected to go on sale in the US on April 13th and will be available in Canada in a few months.
