Honor launched the Honor Magic V2 foldable in Beijing, China, highlighting it as the “thinnest and lightest book-style” device of its kind. The company incorporated novel materials and technology in the device’s construction.
According to a press release, Honor implemented a “super-light” titanium hinge, a material that has not been commonly used in foldable devices. This titanium hinge is claimed to be 150% stronger and 42% lighter than traditional steel and aluminum hinges. By adopting this material, Honor was able to make the Magic V2 even thinner than its predecessor, the Magic Vs, reducing its thickness by approximately 25%.
The Magic V2 features a 7.92-inch OLED LTPO internal display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering smooth and responsive visuals. On the outside, there is a 6.43-inch LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both screens support stylus input, providing users with enhanced productivity and creative capabilities.
By incorporating the lightweight and robust titanium hinge, along with the high-quality OLED displays and stylus support, Honor aims to deliver an exceptional user experience with the Magic V2 foldable.
The Honor Magic V2 foldable incorporates several display features to enhance user comfort and well-being. It includes Dynamic Dimming, which helps reduce eye strain and fatigue by adjusting the screen’s brightness based on ambient lighting conditions. The device also incorporates the Circadian Night Display function, which emits warmer colors to promote better sleep quality.
On the rear of the device, the Honor Magic V2 boasts a triple camera setup, comprising a 50MP main lens, a 50 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 20MP telephoto lens. Additionally, both the internal and external screens of the foldable feature a 16MP selfie camera.
To deliver impressive performance and speed, Honor has equipped the Magic V2 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform. This chipset offers powerful processing capabilities to ensure smooth multitasking and efficient performance for various tasks and applications on the device.
The Honor Magic V2 is equipped with a silicon-carbon battery that is designed to provide long-lasting power. The phone features a dual 2.2mm battery setup, resulting in a total capacity of 5,000mAh. With 66W fast-charging capability, users can quickly recharge the device.
The silicon-carbon material used in Honor’s in-house developed battery offers several advantages. It ensures a more potent and efficient battery experience, providing users with extended usage times. Additionally, the battery operates at a lower voltage, specifically under 3.4V, which enables it to deliver over 3.4 times the amount of energy compared to graphite-based battery systems.
Honor conducted testing to estimate the battery life of the Magic V2 in different scenarios. Streaming videos continuously is estimated to last approximately 14 hours on a single charge, while casual social media browsing can potentially provide up to 23.9 hours of usage. These estimations indicate that the Magic V2’s battery is designed to offer extended usage times, catering to various user needs throughout the day.
The Honor Magic V2 will come with MagicOS 7.2, which is based on Android 13. This version of the operating system will include additional privacy and security features, allowing users to better separate their work and personal apps for enhanced data protection.
In China, the Honor Magic V2 will be available in color options such as Silk Black, Silk Purple, and Gold. The black variant of the device will feature a vegan leather back panel, adding a touch of luxury to its design. The device will offer multiple RAM and internal storage configurations, including 16GB RAM with options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage.
Pre-orders for the Honor Magic V2 in China will begin on July 12, with prices starting at 8,999 RMB. This indicates that the device is positioned as a premium offering, catering to users who seek high-end features and capabilities in a foldable smartphone.
