With the Google I/O 2023 event inching close, there have been a couple of different Pixel Fold leaks that have revealed official-looking renders and the spec sheet. With these leaks, only a few things remain a mystery. The phone is suspected to be in its final stages of development and has reportedly passed through the FCC, which makes its appearance at the Google I/O event almost confirmed.
The FCC filing provides a model number G9FPL for the Pixel Fold. Although the accompanying documents do not reveal much, they have some critical information. For example, the record confirms that the phone will include support for all of the expected connectivity methods. These are usually NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G, and UWB (Ultrawide Band).
The Pixel 6 Pro was the first Google device to offer support for the UWB, which continued with the Pixel 7 Pro. However, none of the non-Pro models or the A-series have ever received UWB. With it being included in the Pixel Fold, it shows how Google is treating it as a premium device. This does not come as a surprise owing to its rumored $1700 price tag.
Previous leaks suggest that the Pixel Fold will likely have a 5.8-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch display, making it similar to the Oppo Find N2. Many leaks also suggested that the Fold will be powered by the Google Tensor G2. Paired with 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage, the Pixel Fold will be a force to be reckoned with. Other leaks in the past few weeks were related to the camera setup on the phone. The Pixel Fold is expected to have a triple camera setup with a selfie camera that will be present on the cover screen and on the inner display.
The Google I/O 2023 event is set to start on May 10th, seeing that the Pixel Fold already has the necessary FCC certifications. This brings the phone one step closer to launch and possibly becoming a competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in the US and Global markets.
