Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the next anticipated flagship processor that Qualcomm plans to release. This chip will likely be used to power top-tier phones likely to launch late this year or early next year. Qualcomm traditionally unveils new chipsets at the annual Snapdragon Summit, but the company seems to be holding the event earlier this year.
Qualcomm shared a new event page for the Snapdragon Summit, which is scheduled for October 24th to October 26th. The event will take place in Maui, Hawaii. For the past couple of years, Qualcomm has hosted such events towards the end of the year. For example, the Snapdragon Summit has been held in November for the past two years. However, it seems like the chipset company decided to push back the event by a few weeks. This change presents an exciting scenario as customers will be able to use devices powered by the chip near the end of the year.
Furthermore, an earlier release will prompt other companies to release their flagship phones early as everyone aims to release the first phone with the new Snapdragon chip. Last year, Xiaomi was the first company to release a phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. This was the Xiaomi 13 Pro released in December 2022. Other OEMs followed, but most released their flagships earlier this year.
Since the Summit will be held earlier this year, a few early adopters of the chipset, like OnePlus and Xiaomi, will be releasing their next flagships with the brand-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This new chip is expected to have significant improvements over the Gen 2. According to the leaks, it will incorporate Qualcomm’s single prime Cortex X4 core. This is said to give the chip a performance boost in frequency to 3.7GHz.
The chipset will also have a 1 + 5 + 2 core structure comprising one super-large core, five large cores, and two small cores. These cores will most likely be accompanied by an Adreno 750 GPU. Many expect the Xiaomi 14 series, OnePlus 12, and the Galaxy S24 series to be the first to utilize the upcoming SoC.
