Despite ditching it for their flagship devices like the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung seems to be still working on its Exynos processors. In a turn of events, the company announced that it would be releasing a powerful SoC for its mid range devices. This chip will be the Exynos 1380, which the company plans to use for its mid-range devices this year. Despite the chip being a mid-range processor, it promises vast improvements in various departments.
Samsung has promised that the Exynos 1380 processor will help improve their phones’ gaming, cameras, and performance, meaning that they will be much more powerful than their predecessors. The new chip also promises to reduce app loading times and increase multitasking efficiency. This is thanks to the new octa-core CPU, which features four Arm Cortex A78s and four Cortex A55s that promise power efficiency. Compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 1280, the 1380s CPUs work together, which allows the chip to deliver around 30% more powerful multi-core performance.
Using the chip, the mid-range Samsung phones will have 40% faster execution speed and 20% faster game loading, making these chips a force to be reckoned with. According to Samsung, the chipset will make use of the Arm Mail G68 GPU for gaming, which promises strong and consistent graphics while also extending the battery life. Samsung also claims that the chipset uses the AI Engine through an improved NPU capable of 4.9 trillion operations per second. This will assist the voice assistance capabilities of the device using advanced language voice recognition.
One of the biggest appeals of the Exynos 1380 is its support for 200MP cameras, which is unheard of on mid range devices. Since this feature was only available on high-end flagship phones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, it will help these mid-range devices feel more premium. Regarding the display, the Exynos 1380 will support 144Hz refresh rate displays with Full HD+ resolution.
The Exynos chip is built on a 5 nm process like its predecessor, the Exynos 1280, which allows it to support 5G for Sub-GHz and mmWave spectrums with download speeds of 3.79Gbps and 3.67Gbps, respectively. Overall this new chip is mighty and matches the new MediaTek chipset called the Dimensity 7200, as the latter also wants mid-range phones to have cameras capable of 200MP. Both chips will likely be head-to-head after their global release.
