Formerly under Huawei, Honor is launching a new mid-range smartphone in China. The Honor X40 is expected to launch in China for a minimal price of $250. This announcement comes after the global launch of Honor 70 earlier this month. The base variant of this device is expected to cost only $214 and will feature 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The Honor X40 has a slim form factor as it is only 7.9mm thick and comes in three different colors. The phone’s main feature is the unique camera setup housed within a ring at the back of the phone.
The front has a large 6.67-inch display that is curved all around the edges. This screen is an OLED panel and can go up to 800 nits at peak brightness. It is also super responsive as it supports 120Hz refresh rates alongside a 300Hz touch sampling rate. There is also a display fingerprint sensor under the display.
This phone is powered by the known and loved Snapdragon 695 5G chipset that has powered many other budget Android devices. It is also expected to come in many storage variants ranging from 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There is also an option to upgrade to an additional 7GB of virtual RAM.
Honor X40 is expected to ship with Android 12-based UI 6.1, which will be able to rival other mid-range smartphones once it is released globally. Its main attraction is the rear ring camera, which houses a dual camera setup. This setup includes a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP secondary camera. The main camera has the capability of shooting videos up to 1080p video and also supports 8x digital zoom.
The front camera is a hole-punch camera with an 8MP sensor for selfies. Honor X40’s battery is also decently sized at 5,100mAh, which can last two days and support 40 W charging.
