The upcoming flagship phone from Sony just had its first render leak. Alleged renders of the phone design were provided by known Twitter Leaker OnLeaks, which showed a familiar design but different cameras. At first glance, it seems as if the new Sony Xperia 1 V will have the same design as the Xperia 1 IV and other previous models. This includes a 6.5-inch display and a vertical camera array on the rear.
However, in an unexpected move, Sony has upgraded their camera setup to include a 48 MP wide-angle lens, a 12 MP primary shooter, and a 12 MP telephoto lens. This change in the camera is also accompanied by a slightly larger camera bump. The front-facing punch-hole camera is still expected to be a 12MP lens.
A past leak also shared some detail on the changes Sony was making to the camera array of the Xperia 1 V, and this leak confirms that. It appeared that Sony was moving away from the 3D ToF or Time of Light and RGB sensors and adopting new upgraded technology. Perhaps this may be a 50MP IMX sensor, but the latest rumours are underwhelming as the 12MP triple camera with a 48MP wide-angle lens is far from Sony’s high-quality 50 MP IMX sensors.
On the inside of the phone, some speculate that the phone may come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, which is Qualcomm’s best chip to date. This chip is also used in Samsung’s brand-new flagship, which is a testament to its quality. With this chip, the new flagship may offer an impressive 16GB RAM. This is not confirmed and is just speculation for now.
Other unchanged features from the Xperia 1 IV include large bezels, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a camera shutter button and a 5000mAh battery. The release date for the phone is unclear, but according to leaked information, customers can expect to see it released in the summer of 2023. The flagship may also be revealed at the upcoming MWC 2023, which is slated to happen in 2023.
At this event, Sony may reveal more information about its specs and details on the final price tag. The expected price is $1600, which was given to Xperia 1 IV at its launch.
