Vivo is the next company set to take on Samsung in the foldable smartphone department as it is gearing up to release its next line of foldable phones this month. The company tried its hand at foldable phones last year when it released the X Fold, but now, it is preparing to launch its successor, the X Fold 2, which is a clamshell foldable phone. This phone is expected to rival other popular foldable phones on the market, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Oppo Find N2 Flip, and the Motorola Razr.
Vivo officially announced they would release these devices on April 20th on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site. Alongside the announcement, the company also gave customers the first look at these new devices. Vivo also unveiled the Pad 2 alongside the Fold and the X Flip. Based on the images revealed, the X Fold 2 looks very similar to its predecessor, the X Fold, with a slight change in the camera module. The new camera module is circular and carries all three sensors, an LED flash, and the ZEISS branding.
This design will also carry onto the X Flip, which is the company’s first clamshell foldable phone. It is expected to compete with Samsung’s Z Flip 4 and Oppo’s Find N2 Flop. The official images reveal that the phone will have a relatively sized prominent foldable screen, which makes it look taller than other clamshell phones on the market. When folded, the X Flip seems to have a bigger cover screen, including features such as an interactive cat character, which interacts with notifications and alarms.
Besides, the cover screen is a circular camera island, much like on the X Fold 2, but this includes only two Zeiss-powered cameras instead of three. The phone’s power button is expected to act as a fingerprint sensor for authentication.
Alongside the two phones, Vivo has also decided to launch the Vivo Pad 2, which will be a successor to the Vivo Pad and will have the same design as its predecessors. The only apparent change in the design is the camera module, which looks similar to the ones on the foldable phones released alongside it.
